Lunar Eclipse Tonight: Midnight Sky to Glow with Rare ‘Blood Moon’ | Udaipur Kiran

Bhopal, September 7 (Udaipur Kiran): Skywatchers are set to witness a rare celestial spectacle tonight, as the longest lunar eclipse since 2022 takes place. At midnight, the moon will appear deep red in colour, popularly known as the “Blood Moon.” This will be the last lunar eclipse of the year and will be visible across India, Australia, Asia, Africa, and Europe, covering nearly 85% of the world’s population.

National Award-winning science communicator Sarika Gharu explained that a lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes directly between the Sun and the Moon, blocking sunlight from reaching the lunar surface. During this alignment, red light waves bend through Earth’s atmosphere and fall on the Moon, giving it a striking red glow.

Eclipse Timings in India

  • Partial Eclipse begins: 9:57:09 pm

  • Total Eclipse begins: 11:48 pm

  • Maximum Eclipse (midpoint): 12:22:51 am

  • Total Eclipse ends: 12:22:51 am

  • Partial Eclipse ends: 1:26:31 am

The total phase of the eclipse, or totality, will last for about 1 hour and 22 minutes, making it the longest since the 2022 eclipse, which lasted 1 hour and 25 minutes.

The best part — no telescope or special eclipse glasses will be required. The entire event can be enjoyed safely with the naked eye.
