Udaipur Welcomes Teams from India and Abroad with Traditional Mewari Hospitality | Udaipur Kiran

Becomes Hub of Sportsmanship at CBSE National Chess Championship 2025-26

Udaipur, 1 September (Udaipur Kiran). The City of Lakes, Udaipur, has become the national stage for the game of intellect and strategy—chess—as it hosts the CBSE National Chess Championship 2025-26 for the first time. MDS Public School is organising this prestigious event from 2 to 5 September.

On 1 September, more than 700 players from over 100 schools across India and abroad arrived in Udaipur. The international representation includes teams from Muscat (Oman), Doha (Qatar), Dubai, Bahrain, and Kuwait, among other Gulf countries.

Grand Mewari Welcome for All Teams

The MDS family welcomed all players with traditional Mewari hospitality. The sounds of drums, folk music, and tilak ceremonies gave participants a glimpse of Rajasthan’s rich culture. Foreign participants described this welcome as an “unforgettable and heartfelt experience.”

“Padharo Mhara Des” Theme to Highlight Inauguration

The grand inauguration ceremony, scheduled for 2 September, will showcase the theme “Padharo Mhara Des,” highlighting the vibrant traditions and heritage of Rajasthan. The chief guest will be MP Dr. Manna Lal Rawat, with special guests including IAS Pragya Kevvalramani (Divisional Commissioner, Udaipur) and IAS Namit Mehta (District Collector, Udaipur). The event will also be graced by founders Dr. Ramesh Chandra Somani and Mrs. Pushpa Somani.

Director and Principal Dr. Shailendra Somani shared that chess matches will be played across Under-11, Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 categories during the four-day championship. Notably, teams from many prestigious schools in India and abroad—including the school of Grandmaster Gukesh—will be participating. This national chess tournament will transform Udaipur into a confluence of sports, culture, and tradition for the next four days.

Dr. Shailendra Somani remarked, “This is not only a proud moment for Udaipur but also for all of Rajasthan. The competition will nurture strategic thinking, discipline, and sportsmanship among players, while the ‘Padharo Mhara Des’ theme will give them a unique experience of Rajasthan’s culture and hospitality.”
