
Star India batter Rohit Sharma has sent his best wishes to Angelo Mathews as he’s decided to retire from Test cricket. Mathews is playing his last Test against Bangladesh in Galle as he’s set to call time from the longest format after playing 119 matches for his country.
The 38-year-old is the third-highest run scorer for his country in Tests with 8167 runs to his name at an average of 44.62 with 16 hundreds and 45 fifties. Recently, India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma sent his best wishes to the Sri Lankan all-rounder, recalling their past battles from the under-19 days.

“Hey Angie, congratulations on your fantastic test career. Tomorrow is your last test match. I just want to wish you and the team the very best. Over the years we’ve had really good battles right from our under 19 days till now. You’ve been a true servant to your nation, and I’m pretty sure everyone back at home appreciates what you’ve done for your country,” said Rohit in a video shared by Angelo Mathews on his Instagram story.
Furthermore, Rohit also wished him a happy retirement and a good time with his family.
“It’s something which has not been achieved by many people what you have achieved, so congratulations again on that. And moving forward, yes, I just want to wish you and your family the very best, happy retirement, enjoy it, and we’ll see you on the other side, bro. All the best,” he added.
Mathews played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s second series win in England back in 2014. He played a brilliant innings of 160 and registered figures of 4/60 in the second Test, playing an integral part in their 100-run win the second Test. As a result, Mathews was adjudged Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series for scoring 306 runs and taking four wickets across two Tests.
