Mumbai, July 13: Passengers faced significant distress on platform number 2 of Mulund railway station when the air conditioning system of an AC local train failed for 15 minutes. The sudden lack of cooling led to suffocation inside the train, causing several passengers to experience breathing difficulties, with some women fainting.
Other passengers quickly assisted the unconscious women, helping them out of the train and providing first aid. Subsequently, the train was operated with its doors open, and the journey was canceled at Kurla.
Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Swapnil Neela, stated, “As I mentioned earlier, three passengers were affected, including two women, and their condition has now stabilized. They have resumed their journey. The third passenger, Fahim Ansari, was admitted to Agarwal Hospital for a short period but was discharged around 11:30 AM on Monday. His condition is stable and normal, and he has no health issues now.”
He explained that the AC unit in the local train’s coach malfunctioned, leading to the breathing difficulties experienced by the three passengers. The train was operated to Kurla and will continue without AC facilities. Neela noted that approximately 108 services are run daily, and this was the first incident of its kind. He expressed hope that such issues would not arise in the future.
