Jerusalem, July 10: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Thursday that Israel will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons under any circumstances. He emphasized that the country will increase its domestic arms production to reduce reliance on foreign purchases.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony for Air Force pilots, Netanyahu declared, “Our policy is very clear. Whether there is an agreement or not, Iran will not have nuclear weapons.”
According to Xinhua News Agency, he noted that had the United States and Israel not attacked Iran, the country would have already armed itself.
Netanyahu announced a significant increase in the defense budget by 350 billion shekels (approximately 116 billion US dollars) over the next ten years, with a substantial portion allocated to the Air Force. He mentioned that this initiative aims to develop a large-scale arms and ammunition manufacturing industry in Israel, thereby reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.
This statement comes amid renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran, with U.S. President Donald Trump declaring that the possibility of an agreement with Tehran is now over.
Israeli Army Chief Eyal Zamir stated that Israel is continuously monitoring the situation in Iran and Lebanon and is prepared for immediate action if necessary. Meanwhile, Defense Minister Israel Katz affirmed that the military remains fully alert and ready to resume operations.
Additionally, Katz remarked that the Israeli army will remain in Lebanon until Hezbollah completely disarms. In a statement from his office, he said, “We did not ask anyone for permission to enter Lebanon, nor do we need anyone’s permission to stay there.” He added that Israeli soldiers will remain in southern Lebanon as long as necessary until Hezbollah is fully disarmed throughout the country.
Katz noted that the Israeli army has established a strong security zone in Lebanon, extending from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to the Beaufort Castle near the Arnon River in southern Lebanon, and eastward to areas around Mount Hermon.
