India Shines at Asian Boxing Championships


Jakarta, July 9: On the fifth day of the Asian Under-19 and Under-23 Boxing Championships, India’s Under-19 women boxers continued their impressive performance in Jakarta, Indonesia. Six boxers secured their spots in the semifinals, guaranteeing medals for the team.

Leading the charge, Chandrika Pujari (51 kg) achieved a remarkable 5:0 victory over Kazakhstan’s Zhadyra Kultay, while Joyshree Devi (54 kg) also won easily against Kazakhstan’s Maral Tolepbergen with a score of 5:0.

Prachi (57 kg) maintained her excellent form with a dominant 5:0 win over Uzbekistan’s Robiya Ravshanova, and Chahat (60 kg) secured a significant victory against Kazakhstan’s Zhasmin Abramyan, also by 5:0.

In the 48 kg category, Gunjan triumphed over Mongolia’s Altanzul Altangadas in a tough match, winning by a split decision of 3:0. Anshika (75 kg) added another medal to India’s tally with a 4:1 victory against Kazakhstan’s Altinagul Aimukhan.

However, India faced setbacks in two close matches. Vanshika (65 kg) lost to Uzbekistan’s Rushanbonu Isoeva due to a referee stop contest in the first round, while Lakshu (70 kg) was defeated by Uzbekistan’s Maftuna Yangieva with a score of 5:0. With these results, India has now secured eight medals in the Under-19 women’s competition.

The Asian Under-19 and Under-23 Boxing Championships, ongoing from July 5 to July 16, serve as a crucial platform for India’s emerging talent to gain international experience and prepare for future global competitions.

Meanwhile, India’s Under-23 women boxers have also performed excellently, with nine boxers reaching the semifinals after impressive displays in the quarterfinals, ensuring more medals for the country.

India’s dominance in women’s boxing at the continental level highlights its growing strength and depth, with many boxers now strong contenders for gold medals.
