New Delhi, July 8: The Congress party has voiced its opposition to the removal of the Punjabi film ‘Sutlej’ from OTT platforms. Party MLA Paragat Singh condemned the ban, stating that prohibiting a film based on a true story is detrimental to society and democracy.
In a conversation, MLA Paragat Singh remarked, “Films based on real stories provide significant insights and highlight the misuse of power, which is essential for today’s audience. I believe this film should be shown.”
He further criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for producing propaganda films, which are often granted tax exemptions. Singh argued that these films attempt to portray the BJP as having made significant contributions to the country, which he claims is misleading. He reiterated that banning films based on true stories is not right for society and democracy, and he condemned such actions.
During the discussion, Punjab Congress MLA Paragat Singh also targeted the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), stating, “The issues in Punjab are significant. Experiments cannot be conducted in Punjab. The BJP and its B-team, the AAP, are leading Punjab in a very negative direction. We need to address these major issues. If there are any grievances within the party (Congress), we will resolve them soon.”
It is noteworthy that Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Sutlej’ has faced controversies regarding censorship and cuts for an extended period. Initially titled ‘Punjab 95’, it was later renamed ‘Sutlej’, and its release has been postponed multiple times. The film features prominent actors such as Diljit Dosanjh, Arjun Rampal, Savinder Vicky, Jagjit Sandhu, and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan. Recently, the film was removed from OTT platforms.
