Atlanta, July 8: In a thrilling Round of 16 match at the FIFA World Cup 2026, reigning champions Argentina made a stunning comeback to defeat Egypt 3-2 after trailing 0-2. The match, held in Atlanta, secured Argentina’s place in the quarter-finals.
Egypt took an early lead with goals from Yasser Ibrahim in the 15th minute and Mustafa Ziko in the 62nd minute, putting Argentina at risk of an early exit. However, Lionel Messi showcased his brilliance by assisting Cristian Romero’s goal in the 79th minute and then scoring himself in the 83rd minute to level the match at 2-2.
Lautaro Martinez delivered a long ball into the area, perfectly placed for Messi, who struck it towards the goal. Despite goalkeeper Mohamed Shobeir’s attempt to save it, the ball hit the crossbar and went in, equalizing the score.
