Jakarta, July 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold bilateral talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday. The meeting aims to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, focusing on key areas such as defense, maritime cooperation, critical minerals, food security, and the digital economy.
Ahead of the meeting, PM Modi expressed appreciation for President Prabowo’s warm gesture of welcoming him at the airport. On the social media platform ‘X’, he noted that the reception was filled with warmth and emotions.
He stated, “In 2018, the relations between India and Indonesia were elevated to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership, benefiting the people of both countries. During this visit, President Prabowo and I will discuss in detail how to further strengthen this partnership across various sectors.”
PM Modi arrived in Jakarta on Monday afternoon as part of his three-nation tour, where he was welcomed by President Prabowo at the airport.
The discussions between the two leaders will particularly focus on enhancing cooperation in defense and maritime security, as well as critical minerals, food security, and the digital economy. They will also review the progress made under the comprehensive strategic partnership established in May 2018.
This marks PM Modi’s fourth visit to Indonesia, but it is his first bilateral visit since the two countries were granted the status of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
In addition to the meeting, PM Modi and President Prabowo will visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, Indonesia’s largest Hindu temple, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
PM Modi mentioned that this visit would further strengthen the cultural ties between India and Indonesia and expressed excitement about meeting the Indian community in Indonesia.
According to India’s ambassador to Indonesia, both leaders may announce the commencement of conservation and restoration work at the Prambanan Temple complex during their discussions.
Last year, President Prabowo visited New Delhi, where he met PM Modi, and both countries signed several significant agreements aimed at strengthening strategic and economic cooperation.
Indonesia is the first stop on PM Modi’s three-nation tour, followed by visits to Australia and New Zealand for high-level meetings.
