Australian Captain Praises Team Unity After World Cup Victory

London, July 6: Australian captain Sophie Molinuex has commended her team’s unity and selflessness after clinching the Women’s T20 World Cup title for a record seventh time. She attributed the victory to months of hard work, trust, and preparation.

Chasing a target of 151 runs at Lord’s on Sunday, the Australian team secured an easy win, finishing with 7 wickets in hand and 17.1 overs to spare. Beth Mooney scored 64 runs, while Phoebe Litchfield contributed 48 runs to the team’s total.

After lifting the trophy, Molinuex expressed her joy, saying, “This is truly amazing. My father is here too. It’s a special day. This victory required a lot of thought, effort, and hard work. Having a group of players willing to do anything for each other is invaluable.”

Molinuex praised Ellyse Perry, stating that her impact on the team goes beyond her performance on the field. “Having a player like Paige (Ellyse Perry) to keep the team calm after the first innings was crucial. She is incredible. The contribution she makes to the team is not just limited to the field. Her personality and who she is, make her the heartbeat of this group. A great player deserving of so much,” she said.

The captain also acknowledged young fast bowler Lucy Hamilton, who impressed everyone by taking early wickets in the final. “Lucy Hamilton was very calm and had a clear understanding of her role. This showcases her ability and that of the group around her,” Molinuex added.

Discussing Australia’s mindset throughout the tournament, Molinuex emphasized that consistency in thinking and trust in the team’s preparation were key to their success. “I think it’s all about trusting each other and our process. We worked hard for this, and it feels great to see the good results now. Regardless of the situation in the tournament, you need to maintain a consistent mindset,” she said.

Molinuex also congratulated England for their remarkable performance in reaching the final and thanked the families, support staff, and fans of the Australian players for their contributions during the team’s journey. “First of all, congratulations to England. You played amazing cricket throughout the tournament. Our dear families, partners, and friends, you are very special to us. It feels great to share this joy with all of you. Thank you to our support staff for everything you do,” she stated.

In closing, the Australian captain praised her teammates for adopting the team’s mindset throughout the tournament. “In the end, girls, I am very proud of you. Thank you for being part of this journey. You should be proud of yourselves too,” she concluded.
