Beijing, July 4: On July 3, 2026, Chinese Vice President Han Cheng participated in the inauguration ceremony of the 14th World Peace Forum at Tsinghua University, where he delivered a speech.
During the event, Han Cheng highlighted the rapid century-wide changes occurring globally, marked by turmoil in international situations, recurring geopolitical conflicts, and increasingly apparent risks, challenges, and governance deficits. He noted that President Xi Jinping has proposed a global governance initiative aimed at fostering a more just and rational global governance system, which has injected valuable stability and positive energy into the world.
In this context, Han Cheng presented four suggestions: First, firmly maintaining the authority and status of the United Nations. China consistently supports the central role of the UN in international affairs through practical actions, faithfully fulfilling its responsibilities and missions as a permanent member of the Security Council, and is prepared to work with all countries to uphold the post-war international order and defend international fairness and justice.
Second, deepening and expanding multilateral cooperation mechanisms. On the occasion of hosting the 33rd informal leaders’ meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), China will work with all parties to build an Asia-Pacific community. It will strengthen coordination and cooperation within the UN and other multilateral mechanisms, adhere to genuine multilateralism, and protect the collective interests of the Global South.
Third, promoting reforms in global economic governance. China advocates for a global economic governance approach based on equality, openness, cooperation, and sharing, and supports the establishment and maintenance of a fair, just, open, inclusive, cooperative, and mutually beneficial international economic order. China will continue to expand high-level openness and promote inclusive and universal economic globalization in collaboration with all countries.
Fourth, strengthening governance in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence. China will enhance exchanges and cooperation with all parties during the hosting of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the high-level meeting on global governance of artificial intelligence, to promote the establishment of a globally accepted governance system for artificial intelligence.
Approximately 400 foreign former politicians, diplomatic representatives, and Chinese-foreign scholars, including former Chairman of the Pakistani Senate Defense Committee Mushahid Hussain Syed and former South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan, attended the inauguration ceremony.
