Kolkata, July 1: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee has raised serious questions regarding the law and order situation in West Bengal following an alleged attack outside his family residence. In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, he claimed that violence has become normalized in the state, with criminals receiving protection.
Banerjee stated that on Tuesday morning, an individual arrived on a motorcycle and repeatedly threw a large stone at the first-floor windows of his family home, shattering the glass. He described this incident not just as a law and order issue but as a case of institutionalized violence.
The TMC leader questioned the police’s whereabouts during the incident and who might have orchestrated such an attack. He alleged that the current environment in the state gives criminals the confidence that they will receive political protection.
In his post, Banerjee targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of promoting violence and hooliganism in Bengal. He claimed that the government’s policies have emboldened criminals.
He also referenced the recently passed ‘West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill, 2026’, questioning whether this law would apply to those accused of being BJP supporters.
Banerjee expressed his concern and distress over the current situation in the state and called for effective action against incidents of violence, questioning the administration’s role.
