Jerusalem, June 8: In response to missile strikes from Iran following airstrikes in Beirut, U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. This information was reported by Israel’s state television channel, Kan TV.
However, neither Netanyahu’s office nor Trump’s office issued an immediate official statement regarding the phone call.
Before the call, Trump mentioned to Israel’s Channel 12 News that he would advise Netanyahu against a retaliatory strike, as he does not want the ongoing ceasefire negotiations between the U.S. and Iran to collapse.
Trump told Fox News, “I would say to Iran, you’ve launched your missiles, now stop. Come back to the negotiating table and make a deal.”
He also claimed that Washington and Tehran were very close to an agreement before the missile launches occurred.
“We were very close. I believe that by this coming Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, we could have signed an agreement. But now this incident has happened,” he stated.
He added, “This will certainly not help move the negotiations forward.”
According to CNN, Iran launched at least ten ballistic missiles towards Israel on Sunday, released in three separate phases. The Israeli military reported that all missiles were intercepted mid-flight.
Two Israeli sources cited by CNN indicated that Israel would respond strongly to this attack, raising concerns about escalating tensions in the region.
The Israeli military reported on Sunday night that four waves of missile attacks from Iran had been directed towards Israel so far.
Currently, there are no reports of injuries or significant damage, although sirens were activated in several areas of northern Israel due to the missile attacks.
