Drug-induced gang rape: Four accused remanded in judicial custody in Kozhikode

The Kozhikode rural police have arrested four persons in connection with an alleged drug-induced gang-rape reported in the Perambra area, following a night-long search across different parts of Kozhikode district.

The accused have been identified as Valiyaparamba Jasif, 39, of Velliyur; Chamboli Sakkir Hussain, 49, of Karuvannur; Kalayamkulathu Rejeesh, 40 and Thanippatta Abhilash, 46, of Naduvannur. They were remanded in judicial custody on Saturday (September 12, 2026).

According to the Perambra police, the survivor, in her complaint, alleged that she was forcibly administered alcohol and other narcotic substances before being sexually assaulted at different locations and on several occasions over the past two years. She also alleged that one of the accused recorded the assault and subsequently threatened her to share it with others.

The police launched a search for the suspects soon after receiving the complaint on Friday (September 11) and traced the four accused to different locations, including Kappad and Mankavu, and arrested them.

A senior police officer attached to the investigation team said some of the accused had criminal background. Rejeesh, in particular, had been arrested under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act and had served a prison term in connection with an assault on his father.

The police suspect that more persons could be involved and are conducting a detailed investigation to ascertain the circumstances and establish the full extent of the alleged offences. The police custody of the accused would also be sought to make headway in the ongoing investigation.
