AMETHI: BSP leader Shashikant Tiwari filed a police complaint alleging that unidentified men attacked him and vandalised his vehicle in Gauriganj.He suspected local MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh of orchestrating the attack following a dispute on Facebook over Singh’s alleged remarks about Brahmins.According to news agency PTI, the Gauriganj MLA declined to comment on the allegations. He said the police should conduct an impartial investigation and take strict action against anyone found responsible.According to the complaint filed at Gauriganj Police Station, the incident took place on the evening of August 8 near Jamo turn.Three unidentified men riding a motorcycle allegedly attacked Tiwari and damaged his vehicle.Tiwari’s wife, Ragini Tiwari, contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from the Amethi seat as a BSP candidate.Tiwari said he had recently responded on Facebook to remarks allegedly made by Singh about Brahmins.He expressed suspicion that the attack may have been carried out at the MLA’s behest.Gauriganj inspector Ravi Singh said an FIR had been registered against three unidentified persons in connection with the incident.“Investigation is underway, and the attackers will be arrested soon,” he said.(With agency inputs)
