Madrid, July 14: José Mourinho has commenced his second tenure as head coach of Real Madrid, starting pre-season training at the Valdebebas training center. However, several key players, including Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé, are currently engaged in the World Cup, limiting Mourinho’s opportunity to train with the full squad for the time being. Despite this, he stated in an interview with Real Madrid TV that preparations for the team began well before Monday.
According to a report by Xinhua, he said, “It’s not that I just arrived today and everything starts now. We have been preparing for a long time with different departments of the club.”
Returning to Real Madrid after nearly 13 years, Mourinho expressed his excitement about being part of the club again, having left in June 2013. He remarked, “For me, it feels like a mission. I am not here just to think about my success or trophies. My goal is to make every player, coaching staff, and everyone associated with the club better than before. I want to create a work culture that emphasizes hard work, responsibility, and the pursuit of big goals.”
Mourinho further noted, “Working at Real Madrid and working for Real Madrid are two different things. I have come here with full commitment to the club.”
He acknowledged that it would have been better if all players were present, but he viewed the situation positively. “Of course, I want all players to be here, but for now, I have the chance to get to know the players I will be working with closely, and they will also have the opportunity to understand me,” he added.
In the initial training sessions, Mourinho will also include several players from Real Madrid’s B team, Real Madrid Castilla. After completing medical checks, the team held its first training session at the Ciudad Real Madrid complex.
The training began in the gym, followed by fitness exercises on the field with academy players, including physical and ball exercises. Players then engaged in challenging drills focused on maintaining ball control under pressure and finishing drills at small goals. Finally, the team played several practice matches on a small field.
