Saharanpur, July 13: Senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, Haji Fazlur Rahman, has responded to Congress MP Imran Masood’s recent statements, accusing him of aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh elections, Masood commented on the SP-Congress alliance, asserting that while the SP frequently speaks of alliances, Congress maintains its distinct identity. He claimed that the SP won 37 seats in the Lok Sabha due to Congress’s support and emphasized that Congress does not require any external assistance. Masood also alleged that the SP does not tolerate outspoken Muslims.
In a rebuttal to Masood’s remarks, Fazlur Rahman suggested that Masood is under BJP’s influence, which leads him to make arbitrary statements and attempt to disrupt the alliance. He recalled that during the 2022 assembly elections, Congress contested separately from the SP, securing only 2 seats and 3% of the votes, while the SP garnered 34% of the votes.
Rahman noted that while Congress’s top leadership seeks an alliance in UP, leaders like Masood seem to oppose it, making statements that benefit the BJP. He highlighted that the BJP thrives on Hindu-Muslim divisive politics, whereas the SP believes in inclusive governance without fostering communal divides.
He dismissed Masood’s accusations as baseless, asserting that the alliance with the SP has been beneficial for Congress, not detrimental. Rahman accused Masood of trying to weaken the opposition alliance and aid the BJP’s electoral prospects.
In response to Masood’s comments, Ajay Rai, the UP Congress president, defended him, stating that Masood is undoubtedly one of their strong MPs, known for his determination and struggle. Rai emphasized that the Congress party is steadily advancing, strengthening its organization and empowering its workers across the country.
