England Announces Squad for ODI Series Against India

Birmingham, July 13: England has announced its playing eleven for the first One Day International (ODI) match against India, set to take place at Edgbaston on Tuesday. Batting all-rounder Jacob Bethel is set to open the innings alongside Ben Duckett.

This match will also mark a significant personal milestone for wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler, who will be playing his 200th ODI. A key player in England’s white-ball team, Buttler made his ODI debut against Pakistan in Dubai on February 21, 2012, and has since scored 5,515 runs, including 11 centuries and 29 half-centuries.

The decision to promote young player Bethel, who has played 21 ODIs so far, indicates England’s search for a strong opening partner for Duckett. Interestingly, Bethel will become the fifth opening partner for Duckett, following Phil Salt, Jamie Smith, Zak Crawley, and Rehan Ahmed.

Under the captaincy of Harry Brook, the England team has opted for a spin-heavy bowling combination, including Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, and Adil Rashid, to counter India’s formidable batting lineup featuring players like Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul.

Jofra Archer returns to the England ODI squad for the first time since November, having played a crucial role in their recent 4-0 ODI series victory. He will share the fast bowling duties with Josh Tong. Gus Atkinson has not been included in this playing eleven.

Following the first match at Edgbaston, India and England will face off again on July 16 in Cardiff and on July 19 at Lord’s for the remaining ODIs.

England’s playing eleven: Jacob Bethel, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook (captain), Jos Buttler (wicketkeeper), Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson, Josh Tong, and Adil Rashid.
