Vice President Unveils Statue of Mannathu Padmanabhan in New Delhi


New Delhi, July 12: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated a statue of social reformer and freedom fighter Mannathu Padmanabhan at the Mannam International Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi, during a ceremony organized by the Nair Service Society (NSS) Delhi on Sunday. On this occasion, he also inaugurated the ‘Mannam Smriti Mandapam’, dedicated to the life, thoughts, and social contributions of Mannathu Padmanabhan.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice President remarked that Mannathu Padmanabhan’s life symbolizes dedication to social justice, equality, education, and community service. He noted that Padmanabhan’s ideals continue to inspire society towards becoming more inclusive, just, and harmonious.

The Vice President highlighted Mannathu Padmanabhan as a visionary leader who played a crucial role in social reform. His thoughts transcended caste and religious boundaries, focusing on humanity, equality, and national service. He emphasized the responsibility of society to preserve the legacy of such great personalities and pass it on to future generations.

He appreciated the efforts of the Nair Service Society, Delhi, in establishing the ‘Mannam Smriti Mandapam’, stating that this memorial serves not just as a tribute but also as a medium to promote the values and principles for which Mannathu Padmanabhan dedicated his life.

During the program, the Vice President also participated in a tree plantation drive under the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign initiated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. This campaign aims to promote environmental conservation and instill a sense of responsibility towards nature among people. Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi also participated in the plantation event.

Notable attendees included Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi, NSS Delhi President M.K.G. Pillai, and General Secretary M.D. Jayaprakash, among other dignitaries.

It is noteworthy that Mannathu Padmanabhan was one of Kerala’s prominent social reformers and freedom fighters, making significant contributions to the spread of education, social reform, and community upliftment. Under his leadership, the Nair Service Society made remarkable contributions in the social and educational fields. The ‘Mannam Smriti Mandapam’ is considered an important initiative to remember his thoughts and contributions while strengthening the values of service and equality in society.
