Mandhana and Harmanpreet Shine on Day One of Lords Test


London, July 11: The Indian women’s cricket team is currently facing England in a single Test match at Lord’s. The first day of the Test belonged to India, who scored 285 runs in their first innings and managed to deliver a significant blow to England before the close of play.

England has scored 21 runs for the loss of one wicket in their first innings. Tammy Beaumont was dismissed by Kanika Gaud for just 2 runs. Heather Knight and Maia Bouchier are currently at the crease, with Knight yet to score and Bouchier on 17 runs. England is trailing India by 264 runs.

Earlier, India was all out for 285 runs in their first innings. After losing the toss, the Indian batting lineup did not start well, with Shafali Verma returning to the pavilion without scoring.

Yastika Bhatia, who came in at number three, also struggled and was dismissed for 12 runs by Lauren Bell. However, Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana steadied the innings, forming a crucial partnership of 64 runs for the third wicket off 72 balls. Jemimah played aggressively but could not capitalize on her start, scoring 35 runs from 38 balls with 5 fours before getting out. Mandhana found a solid partner in captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and together they added 89 runs for the fourth wicket off 155 balls. Mandhana scored 83 runs off 108 balls, hitting 11 fours and a six before being dismissed. Harmanpreet contributed a strong 58 runs.

Deepti Sharma also played well, scoring a half-century with 57 runs off 87 balls, including 7 fours. However, after Mandhana’s dismissal, the Indian innings faltered, losing their last six wickets for just 95 runs. Richa Ghosh and Sneh Rana both scored 13 runs before being dismissed. For England, Sophie Ecclestone was impressive with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 68 runs, while Issy Wong and Mady Villiers claimed two wickets each, and Lauren Bell took one.
