New Delhi, July 11: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta launched a large-scale plantation drive in Rohini on Saturday. He emphasized that the survival rate of plants is the true measure of success for any green initiative.
At Chitragupt Park in DDA District Park, Sector 14, Gupta stated, “Planting a tree is not just an event; it is a promise for future generations. The real success of a plantation campaign is not in the number of trees planted, but in how many of those trees survive and thrive.”
He highlighted that merely planting trees is not enough. Gupta stressed that ensuring the survival and ongoing care of each plant should be the top priority. “There is a significant difference between planting a sapling and ensuring it grows into a healthy tree. Our responsibility does not end with planting; it begins there,” he urged citizens to take diligent care of every plant.
The plantation program was organized by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in collaboration with volunteer organizations to promote sustainability and increase public participation in creating a clean, green, and healthy Delhi.
During the event, over 500 Jamun saplings were planted, with a special focus on enhancing greenery through local plant species. Addressing the attendees, Gupta noted that due to continuous public participation and long-term environmental efforts, Rohini has emerged as one of the greenest areas in Delhi.
He called for the initiative, which began at the District Park, to become a people’s movement that reaches every household, encouraging citizens to actively participate in preserving and enhancing Delhi’s greenery.
Gupta urged residents to organize planting campaigns in their local parks and become active partners in environmental conservation. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide campaign, “One Tree in the Name of Mother,” he mentioned that this initiative carries a profound emotional and cultural message, encouraging every citizen to plant and care for a tree in honor of their mother.
He concluded by stating that caring for such a tree becomes a lasting symbol of love, gratitude, and remembrance, strengthening both family values and environmental awareness.
