NCW Chairperson Leads POSH Training in Kannauj

Mumbai, July 10: The Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Vijaya Rahatkar, inspected the Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC) in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday and led a training program focused on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH).

During the training, Rahatkar emphasized that women’s empowerment is only achievable when every workplace is safe, respectful, and provides equal opportunities. She highlighted the importance of effectively implementing the POSH Act of 2013, ensuring transparent, confidential, and timely resolution of complaints, and regularly monitoring compliance.

Rahatkar also stressed the need for awareness about Local Committees (LC) for women in the unorganized sector and the establishment of capable and fair Internal Committees (IC) for regular capacity building of employers and employees.

She stated that a safe workplace is not just a legal obligation but also the foundation for women’s economic empowerment and nation-building.

The NCW shared on the social media platform X that Rahatkar reviewed the facilities and services available at the Sakhi OSC and instructed officials to ensure prompt, sensitive, and effective support for women.

Following the inspection, she distributed benefits to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes, participated in the Annaprashan ceremony for newborns, and the Goad Bharaai program, providing mobile phones to women, checks to children, and scientific equipment to various institutions.

On Thursday, Rahatkar visited Kanpur, where she led significant programs related to gender-sensitive policing, workplace safety, grievance redressal, and institutional strengthening for women’s empowerment. During her visit, she organized a ‘Women’s Public Hearing’ at the Circuit House and discussed women’s safety and welfare issues with senior administrative and police officials of the Kanpur division.

In the inaugural session on power and security, Rahatkar emphasized the need to promote gender-sensitive policing.
