
Nottingham, July 8: India faced a crushing defeat against England in the third T20 match of the series, losing by 125 runs. The match, held at Trent Bridge on Tuesday, leaves India trailing 0-2 in the five-match series.
After losing the toss, England batted first and scored 201 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Philip Salt contributed significantly, forming a 43-run partnership for the first wicket with Jos Buttler, who scored 36 runs before being dismissed. Salt then built partnerships of 28 runs with captain Harry Brook (16) and 40 runs with Jacob Bethel (13), as well as a crucial 47-run stand with Sam Curran.
Salt was the standout performer, scoring 70 runs off 44 balls, including 3 sixes and 7 fours. Curran remained unbeaten on 41 runs from 24 balls. For India, Harshit Rana and Prince Yadav took 2 wickets each, while Axar Patel claimed 1 wicket.
Under pressure from a massive target, the Indian team collapsed, getting all out for just 76 runs in 11.4 overs. Opener Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Suryavanshi managed to put together a brief partnership of 23 runs in 1.5 overs. Abhishek scored 10 runs before returning to the pavilion, and shortly after, Suryavanshi was dismissed for 13 runs, which included 2 sixes.
Only Ishan Kishan (13) and Axar Patel (10) managed to reach double figures, as wickets fell rapidly. Josh Tongue was the star bowler for England, taking 4 wickets for just 28 runs, while Jofra Archer claimed 3 wickets, and Adil Rashid took 2. Will Jacks also chipped in with 1 wicket.
The first match of the T20 series was abandoned due to rain, and England won the second match by 4 wickets. The remaining two matches are scheduled to take place on July 9 and 11 in Bristol and Southampton, respectively.
