Mumbai, July 6: In a surprising revelation, 90s Bollywood actress Shilpa Shirodkar shared why she was unable to perform in one of the most famous songs, ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya,’ alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Recently appearing on the dance reality show ‘India’s Best Dancer Season 5,’ Shilpa recalled that choreographer Farah Khan had deemed her too overweight for the role.
During the show, host Harsh Limbachiya asked, “Shilpa ma’am, I learned that you were initially supposed to perform in the famous song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya.’”
Reflecting on the incident, Shilpa said, “Yes, Farah had brought the song and told me, ‘This is the song, but I am giving you 15 days. Lose weight.’ I ate boiled vegetables for 15 days, but even though I lost some weight, it wasn’t enough for Farah. She came back and said, ‘Sorry, but you are still fat. We can’t take you for this song,’ and then it went to Malaika Arora. I mean, I am not lying. I was overweight, so I missed out on the song, and Farah claims I was 100 kilos. I wasn’t 100 kilos.”
Her candidness left everyone on set astonished. Lightening the mood, Shilpa turned to judge Geeta Kapoor, who smiled and acknowledged, “I was an assistant at that time.”
Praising Shilpa’s honesty, Harsh Limbachiya remarked, “I must admit, she is very selfless and honest. No one calls her a heroine on national TV.”
Shilpa Shirodkar has been a part of several successful films and television projects. In the 90s Bollywood scene, she was considered one of the hottest actresses, featuring in hits like ‘Hum’ and ‘Kishan Kanhaiya.’ She also became a popular face among television audiences with her participation in ‘Bigg Boss Season 18.’
