PM Modi Returns to India After Seychelles Visit, Pays Tribute to Gandhi


Victoria, June 29: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for New Delhi after completing a three-day visit to Seychelles. During the final phase of his trip, PM Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Earlier, he offered prayers at the Navshakti Vinayagar Temple.

On Monday, PM Modi laid flowers at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Peace Park, Seychelles, and interacted with the Indian community gathered to welcome him. The crowd, waving the Indian flag, chanted slogans like “Modi Modi” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”

PM Modi shared several pictures from the event on the social media platform X, stating, “Paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Peace Park in Victoria. Bapu’s ideals have united generations in the pursuit of peace, justice, and human dignity. His thoughts continue to inspire our collective efforts for a better world.”

Earlier, he prayed at the Navshakti Vinayagar Temple, the main Hindu temple in Seychelles, and spoke to the Indian community gathered outside. He posted on X, “Prayed at the Arulmigu Navshakti Vinayagar Temple in Victoria. May Lord Ganesha bless everyone with wisdom, strength, and prosperity.”

In sharing pictures of his meeting with the Indian community, PM Modi expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Seychelles Hindu Kovil Sangam in promoting various aspects of Indian culture and spirituality in Seychelles.

Before PM Modi’s arrival at the temple, members of the Indian community spoke to news agencies about the extensive preparations made for his visit, coinciding with Seychelles’ 50th National Day celebrations.

One community member expressed joy, stating, “We are very happy that PM Modi is here for the 50th Independence Day. All arrangements have been made. We will pray for his long life at the temple and hope he continues to serve the people of India. We have also organized cultural programs to welcome him.”

Another community member, Shashi, mentioned, “The Indian community in Seychelles is very excited about PM Modi’s visit. We are happy to welcome him. There are strong bilateral ties between India and Seychelles, and we hope to strengthen this relationship during his visit.”

Dhanalakshmi, another community member, expressed feeling honored by the Prime Minister’s visit. She said, “I work closely with the government on various initiatives. We also hope that, considering the strong bilateral relations between India and Seychelles, the Indian government will assist in the development of the temple’s infrastructure.”

Meanwhile, the National Day celebrations in Seychelles commenced with a parade, where PM Modi was the chief guest. Soldiers parachuted into the venue with the national flag, and the people joyfully celebrated the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence. PM Modi arrived in Seychelles on Saturday at the invitation of President Dr. Patrick Herminie.
