Jaipur, September 29 (Udaipur Kiran): In a major success under the ongoing special campaign to nab wanted criminals, Jhalawar Police has arrested Padam Singh, the absconding chairman of Aastha Credit Co-operative Society, from Kota. The accused had been on the run for the past five years and carried a reward of ₹10,000. He was wanted in nine cases related to fraud and cheque dishonour.
Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar informed that Padam Singh, along with the society’s secretary and treasurer, had lured investors by promising high returns. According to the complaint filed by Mohammad Yakub, a resident of Reechhwa, and six others, investors deposited large amounts in the society’s daily savings scheme through agents.
After collecting the deposits, the society abruptly closed its office, and chairman Padam Singh Jhala, secretary Giriraj Gupta, and treasurer Mahendra Pratap Singh absconded. The court declared all three accused as fugitives. While the other two managed to obtain bail, Padam Singh remained absconding for five years.
Acting on specific intelligence, a special team led by SHO Jhalrapatan Harlal Meena arrested Padam Singh from his rented house in Rangbadi, Kota. To evade arrest, the 49-year-old accused, son of Roopsingh and resident of Dubliya Sunel, had been frequently changing his locations.
