Rishikesh, June 8: The ongoing Chardham Yatra and an influx of weekend tourists have led to significant crowding in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. This surge in visitors has put pressure on travel arrangements, prompting the deployment of additional police forces at various locations and traffic diversions.
Circle Officer Tushar Bora reported that there has been a notable increase in registrations for the Chardham Yatra compared to last year, both online and offline. He mentioned that public participation has also risen significantly, further straining travel arrangements. However, efforts are being made to maintain smooth operations with the cooperation of local residents and authorities.
The situation becomes even more challenging during weekends, as pilgrims heading to Chardham arrive in Rishikesh alongside a large number of weekend tourists from Delhi, NCR, and Haryana. Consequently, traffic pressure increases every Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, traffic jams were reported in several areas, with vehicles moving slowly in a rotation system, causing intermittent halts.
Bora noted that traffic pressure remained high from Sunday morning. To manage this, additional teams of police, Home Guard, and CPU have been deployed. Local police are also actively present on the roads, working diligently to manage traffic flow.
He urged travelers to use designated parking areas as instructed by the administration and to avoid parking vehicles haphazardly on the streets. Bora emphasized that even a single improperly parked vehicle can lead to long traffic jams, disrupting the entire system. Therefore, cooperation from travelers is crucial.
He reiterated that the Chardham Yatra is an important religious journey, and its smooth operation is only possible through collaboration between the administration and the public. Bora appealed to all pilgrims and tourists to remain patient, adhere to rules, and fully cooperate with the police to ensure a safe and organized journey.
