India Dominates Day One Against Afghanistan in Test Match


Chandigarh, June 6: India has established a strong grip against Afghanistan in the ongoing lone Test match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. By the end of the first day, the Indian team scored 368 runs for the loss of 3 wickets, with only 85 overs of play possible.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, the Indian team faced its first setback when Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 24 runs off 32 balls, including 5 fours, at the end of the 12th over, leaving the score at 41.

Sai Sudharsan then partnered with KL Rahul to add 139 runs for the second wicket, propelling the team to a total of 180. Sudharsan contributed 81 runs off 104 balls, hitting 13 fours.

Captain Shubman Gill joined the innings and, along with KL Rahul, added 67 runs for the third wicket, taking the score to 247. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant came in at number five and completed his half-century before the day’s end.

By the close of play, Gill and Pant had formed an unbeaten partnership of 121 runs for the fourth wicket off 148 balls. Gill remained not out at 103 runs from 143 balls, including 1 six and 11 fours, while Pant scored 50 runs off 70 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours.

On the other hand, Afghanistan, led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, featured players such as Sediqullah Atal, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Abdul Malik, Rahmat Shah, Afsar Zazai (wicketkeeper), Azmatullah Omarzai, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Nangyalai Kharote, Ziaur Rahman Sharifi, and Mohammad Saleem Safi.
