UDAIPUR, June 2, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) : A major commotion broke out at J.P. Orthopedic Hospital in Udaipur after a patient allegedly failed to regain consciousness following surgery and reportedly reached a critical condition. Family members and community members accused the doctors of negligence, vandalised the hospital premises and allegedly engaged in a scuffle with medical staff. The patient was later shifted to Geetanjali Hospital for further treatment.
The family alleged that the patient’s condition deteriorated due to the administration of an excessive amount of anaesthesia during the operation. During the incident, Indian Medical Association (IMA) President Dr. Anand Gupta, who arrived to intervene and calm the situation, was also allegedly assaulted, and his clothes were reportedly torn.
According to information provided, Kuldeep Jain, son of Lehrilal Jain and a resident of Koon village, is engaged in the cloth business. On Tuesday, he was travelling by motorcycle to the residence of a relative in Hiran Magri Sector 3, Udaipur. Near Bansda village, a nilgai suddenly came onto the road, resulting in a collision. He sustained serious injuries to both hands, including fractures, and was brought to J.P. Orthopedic Hospital. According to the family, he had walked into the hospital on his own.
During examination, doctors reportedly diagnosed major fractures and advised surgery, which the family approved. However, when the patient did not regain consciousness for a considerable period after the operation, family members questioned the doctors. They were informed that he would regain consciousness after some time.
As the patient continued to remain unconscious, family members alleged that an excessive amount of anaesthesia had been administered during the surgery and began protesting. Relatives, community members and friends gathered at the hospital, escalating the situation.
Alleging negligence in treatment and unsatisfactory responses from the doctors, the family members allegedly vandalised the hospital premises, including the main glass entrance door. They also allegedly got into physical altercations with doctors and hospital staff.
Following information about the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Umesh Ojha, Bhupalpura Station House Officer Adarsh Kumar and police personnel from nearby police stations reached the hospital and brought the situation under control.
Amid the unrest, Kuldeep Jain, who was stated to be in a critical condition, was shifted to Geetanjali Hospital for treatment. Family members also accompanied him.
