IPL 2026: Virat Kohli, RCB fired up as Mo Bobat calls for unprecedented IPL feat, video goes viral

Royal Challengers Bengaluru might have just won their second consecutive Indian Premier League trophy, but the franchise has no intention of stopping. After ending an agonizing 18-year title drought last year, the team has well and truly gelled into a powerhouse, and they are now chasing a feat no other franchise has ever achieved.

Delivering a fiery speech in the dressing room following RCB’s dominant victory over Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, team director Mo Bobat wasted no time shifting the goalposts.

“I’ve got one last thing to say,” Bobat announced to a captivated dressing room. “No team’s ever won three in a row. Skipper, what do you reckon? Three in a row?”

The question instantly shifted the vibe of the room. Virat Kohli and the rest of the squad erupted, completely hyped up by the prospect of charting unprecedented territory. Skipper Rajat Patidar answered with absolute certainty: “Definitely.”

SILENCING THE AUCTION CRITICS

Achieving a three-peat is an exceedingly rare feat in elite sport, with Australia’s dominant men’s cricket era between 1999 and 2007 standing as the most famous modern template. To even be in a position to replicate that greatness, Bobat stressed that building the right foundation from the ground up was essential.

Speaking to reporters in a virtual press conference on Monday, Bobat reflected on the strategic choices that built this championship core during the previous mega auction. At the time, critics were far from impressed.

“It’s funny when we finished our mega auction, I think we were ranked second bottom for the quality of the squad by quite a lot of broadcasters and a lot of experts,” Bobat recalled. “Many people had us to finish last.”

Rather than letting outside noise derail them, the management backed their calculated blueprint.

“That was certainly nothing that affected our thought process or psychology,” Bobat asserted. “We were clear on what we were trying to build as a squad in terms of team structure. We were quite clear on the attributes and characteristics that we wanted from players—a combination of skill and character.”

Bobat also noted that while franchises cannot completely win a tournament at the auction table, they can certainly lose one, explaining that “it’s quite hard to undo things that you then either regret… once you’ve got through your first mega auction.”

THE INFINITE GOAL

A massive pillar of RCB’s unprecedented back-to-back success has been the calm leadership of Rajat Patidar. Stepping into the captaincy role, Patidar has prioritised collaboration over autocracy.

“I always like to back my instincts, but I also like to go and communicate with the coaches and the experienced players, where I can get ideas,” Patidar explained. “Overall, this is my way of captaincy.”

With a robust leadership group backing his instincts, the franchise is ready to transition from a double-champion to an absolute dynasty. Bobat believes that a truly great team must never get comfortable with past success.

“I always had it in my mind that once we won that first one, we needed not to settle for that,” Bobat concluded. “Because like any sports team, you want to have almost like a bit of an infinite goal that you’re just always striving towards achieving something that constantly inspires your fans.”
