Putins Visit to India: A Strategic Boost Amid Tensions

Oslo, May 20: Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India this year, coinciding with the BRICS Summit 2026 scheduled for September. According to West Asia expert V.L. Awad, this visit is crucial for India, providing a significant boost on the international stage.

Awad emphasized the importance of this trip, particularly in light of the rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and ongoing tensions in West Asia. He stated, “This is a much-needed visit, as India is being recognized as an emerging economy and military power.”

He further noted that Russia values its relationship with India highly, considering it a strategic asset. “Russia does not wish to compromise on any aspect of its ties with India. They have been very supportive in supplying energy and transferring technology, especially when India needed it the most,” Awad added.

Awad pointed out that supply chain disruptions in the Persian Gulf are already affecting global trade, with a significant portion of it originating from that region. India is among the countries most impacted by the ongoing war and its repercussions. “Currently, markets react based on statements from the U.S. President or Iran, leading to fluctuations. Therefore, India cannot afford to be reliant on a single source. It aims to diversify its resources, particularly with Russia and other nations,” he concluded.
