Congress Blasts Government Over Rising CNG Prices

New Delhi, May 17: The Congress party has targeted the central government following a second increase in CNG prices within two days. They stated that the “inflation man” has struck again, with the government raising CNG prices by ₹3 so far.

On Sunday, Congress took to the social media platform ‘X’ to express their concerns, stating, “The inflation man Modi has struck again, with CNG prices increasing today. ₹2 on May 15 and ₹1 on May 17, making it a total of ₹3.” They criticized the government for what they termed as “recovery” measures post-elections.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Srinet sarcastically remarked in her ‘X’ post, “CNG prices have been raised in the national interest. In just three days, CNG has become ₹3 more expensive. Expect more such jolts, and bear them with a smile.”

On Sunday, CNG prices in Delhi were raised by ₹1 per kilogram for the second time in two days. Following this increase, the price in Delhi has reached ₹80.09 per kilogram, while in Noida and Ghaziabad, it now stands at ₹88.70 per kilogram.

Previously, on Friday, CNG prices had already seen a hike of ₹2 per kilogram, bringing the rate to ₹79.09 per kilogram in the national capital.

Additionally, on Friday, petrol and diesel prices also rose by approximately ₹3 per liter, with petrol now priced at ₹97.77 per liter and diesel at ₹90.67 per liter in Delhi.

This surge in fuel prices comes amid rising tensions in West Asia and ongoing blockades in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most crucial energy trade routes. Approximately one-fifth of global oil and gas trade passes through this narrow passage, and disruptions in supply have led to a rapid increase in international crude oil prices.
