Chandigarh, May 15: Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father and actor Yograj Singh has landed in serious trouble for using derogatory language against women. An FIR was registered against him at the Sector-36 police station in Chandigarh on Friday.
Yograj Singh is accused of employing disrespectful and obscene language towards women in the web series ‘Lukkhe’, which is streaming on Amazon. A video clip that went viral on social media has sparked widespread outrage over the abusive language directed at women.
The Punjab State Women’s Commission has taken the matter seriously. The Commission wrote to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab on Thursday, directing an immediate investigation. They have demanded action against Yograj Singh, the series’ writer, director, producer, and all other responsible parties under Section 12 of the Punjab State Commission for Women Act, 2001. The Commission has also requested an investigation report within a week.
Advocate Ujjwal Bhasin recently filed a complaint against Yograj Singh and others with the police. Additionally, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee has also written to the Women’s Commission, demanding the registration of an FIR against Yograj Singh and a ban on the entire web series ‘Lukkhe’.
In their complaint, the Congress party stated that Yograj Singh claims to be an Amritdhari Sikh and a Gursikh, yet he used language that undermines the dignity of women, which is against Sikh principles. They highlighted violations of Section 79 of the Indian Penal Code and the constitutional rights of women.
Yograj Singh, who is active in both cricket and acting, is facing heavy criticism on social media following this controversy. Many have accused him of behaving contrary to Sikh values. The police are currently investigating the matter, and no official response from Yograj Singh regarding the allegations has been made yet.
