Guwahati, May 9: Assam’s Education Minister Ranoj Pegu expressed gratitude to the voters of his Dhemaji constituency for electing him, stating that the BJP’s impressive victory in the state assembly elections reflects the growing trust and confidence of the public in the alliance and its leadership.
Speaking to reporters, Pegu emphasized his appreciation for the public’s faith in him and assured that he would continue to work for the development of the constituency and the welfare of its residents over the next five years.
“I sincerely thank the people of my constituency for electing me. I see this not only as gratitude but also as a responsibility and duty. In the coming years, I will work towards the development of the constituency and provide various services to the public,” he said.
Referring to the performance of the National Democratic Alliance, Pegu noted that the prospects for the alliance in Assam have significantly strengthened, and he mentioned the strong possibility of a new council of ministers being sworn in on May 12.
He added that the BJP-led alliance would hold its first legislative party meeting on May 10, following the arrival of central observers from the party, during which the leader of the legislative party would be elected.
Pegu stated that the elected leader of the assembly party would become the Chief Minister, and forming the council of ministers is the prerogative of the Chief Minister. However, there are already widespread expectations among the public that former Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will once again take on the role.
Regarding the question of ministerial positions, the senior BJP leader remarked that this issue should not be considered the most critical aspect of governance.
He explained that not everyone in the 126-member assembly can become a minister. It is a complex process that also takes into account the representation of various communities and groups. “Becoming a minister is not the biggest issue. We have always worked as a team in Assam, and every legislator plays an important role,” he concluded.
