Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have bolstered their pace attack by signing South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee for the remainder of the IPL 2026 season. Coetzee joins the squad as a replacement for David Payne, who has been ruled out of the tournament following a persistent ankle injury.
Payne’s stint this season was brief but impactful, as he featured in two matches and claimed two wickets before the injury cut his campaign short. In his place, SRH has opted for the raw pace and aggression of Coetzee, securing his services for Rs 2 Crore.
The right-arm pacer brings significant international pedigree to the Hyderabad camp. Coetzee has represented South Africa in four Tests, 14 ODIs, and 18 T20Is, accumulating a total of 67 international wickets. He is also no stranger to the pressures of the IPL, having previously played 14 matches while representing both Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI).
With 15 IPL wickets already to his name, Coetzee’s ability to clock high speeds and provide breakthroughs in the middle overs will be a vital asset for SRH as they push for a playoff spot in the latter half of the tournament.
