Prayagraj, April 9, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): A 47-year-old property dealer was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Prayagraj on Wednesday evening, triggering panic in the area. The incident took place around 6:30 pm near Bismillah Chowk in Kareli when four masked men arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Irfan, a resident of Ainuddeenpur. According to reports, one of the attackers shot him on the left side of his chest while he was having tea. He was attacked just about 250 metres from his residence.
Police suspect that the murder may be linked to a property dispute. Based on a complaint filed by Irfan’s son, an FIR has been registered at Kareli police station against two real brothers along with unidentified persons. Both brothers are said to be close associates of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed.
The body has been kept in the mortuary, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Thursday.
Family members, including Irfan’s wife Mangrul Nisha, two sons Mohammad Aamir and Faisal, and two daughters, reached the hospital in distress, demanding swift action against the accused.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers fled towards Andhipur after the shooting. Irfan was earlier associated with Ashraf Ahmed and had worked as his driver before entering the property dealing business.
In the FIR, Irfan’s elder son Mohammad Aamir has named Asif Durrani, a resident of Chakia, along with his brother Rashid and others. Police said that the accused were previously involved in property dealings with Irfan and had ongoing disputes related to land transactions.
Asif Durrani is reported to have multiple cases registered against him, including serious charges. Police officials said the case will be clearer once the accused are apprehended.
Investigators are also examining Irfan’s close associates and friends, as preliminary findings indicate possible financial and personal disputes. Several suspects have been detained and are being questioned.
To trace the attackers, police scanned footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras in the surrounding areas. While the suspects were seen in some clips, their identities could not be clearly established due to covered faces.
