Udaipur, March 29 (Udaipur Kiran): The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has started the process for a second board examination (improvement exam) for Class 10 students within the same academic session. The exam is scheduled to be held in May.

According to the board, students who are not satisfied with their marks in the first examination will be eligible to appear. They will be allowed to improve their scores in a maximum of three subjects, with one language subject—Hindi, English, or Sanskrit—being mandatory.

The board will declare the Class 10 results in the first fortnight of April to ensure timely conduct of the second examination. The registration process will be conducted in three phases. Students can register without any fee until March 31. From the day after the result declaration, registration will be open for five days with a fee of Rs 320 per subject. Thereafter, for the next two days, students can register with a late fee, paying around Rs 2,000 per subject.

To be eligible for the second examination, students must have appeared in the first board exam. Those absent in three or more subjects will not be eligible, while students placed in the ‘compartment’ category can apply. There will be no option to improve internal assessment or practical marks.

The number of examination centres for the second exam will be limited, and students may be allotted centres at distant locations. Once allotted, the exam centre will not be changed.

In the Udaipur region, around 8,000 students appeared for the Class 10 board examination this year. The new system will provide them with an additional opportunity to improve their scores.
