Bengaluru, March 28: The opening match of IPL 2026 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) showcased a heartwarming moment as two giants of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble, appeared to mend their long-standing rift. The sight of the former Indian captain and coach embracing each other captured the attention of fans.

Before the toss at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Kohli and Kumble’s hug drew significant attention on social media. Kumble had taken over as the head coach of the Indian team in 2016 when Kohli was the captain. Their relationship had been strained, leading to Kumble’s resignation due to disagreements over his coaching methods and a strict approach towards players. Even after his resignation, their relationship remained tense.

However, their recent encounter on Saturday suggested that both have moved past their differences. The two shared a warm embrace on the field and engaged in friendly conversation for a while.

Kohli also met former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn, which sparked discussions on social media. Steyn brought an old Indian jersey with Kohli’s name on it and requested an autograph. Kohli was visibly touched and happy, flashing a warm smile before signing the jersey.

RCB, the defending champions after winning IPL 2025, is set to defend their title in IPL 2026.
