Ahmedabad, March 27: Air India has announced that it will shift all its domestic flights at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad from Terminal-1 to Terminal-2, effective March 29.
The airline operates a total of 210 weekly domestic flights from Ahmedabad, all of which will now be managed exclusively from Terminal-2. Air India’s international flights have already been operating from this terminal. With this shift, all of Air India’s flights, both domestic and international, will be consolidated under one terminal.
The airline stated that this change aims to enhance the airport experience for passengers. Terminal-2 spans 49,000 square meters and is equipped with modern facilities, including 52 check-in counters, self-baggage drop kiosks, DigiYatra kiosks, 17 departure immigration counters, 22 arrival immigration counters, 8 fast-track e-gates, and contemporary retail and food court options.
Air India has already begun notifying all passengers booking flights from Ahmedabad about this change via SMS, email, and other means. Passengers are advised to confirm their terminal before heading to the airport to avoid any last-minute issues.
The Air India Group, which includes Air India and Air India Express, is rapidly transforming the Indian aviation sector. Founded in 1932 by J.R.D. Tata, the group now operates a fleet of over 300 aircraft with more than 30,000 employees, serving 59 domestic and 51 international destinations.
Since Tata Sons’ acquisition in 2022, Air India has been implementing a five-year transformation program called ‘Vihaan AI.’ Under this initiative, the airline has placed an order for 600 new aircraft. The successful merger of AirAsia India and Vistara with Air India Express and Air India is expected to be completed by 2024. Recently, Air India also launched South Asia’s largest aviation training academy, with a new flying school set to open in 2026 and the rapid development of a greenfield maintenance base. Additionally, the interiors of all older aircraft are being progressively revamped.
