Hobart, March 1: Indian women’s cricket team’s left-arm spinner N. Sri Charani has set an unfortunate record during the match against Australia at Hobart’s Ninja Stadium. She has become the Indian woman bowler to concede the most runs in an ODI spell.

In her 10 overs, N. Sri Charani gave away 106 runs, although she managed to take 2 wickets. This performance is one she would likely prefer to forget, as it stands as the third most expensive spell in women’s ODI cricket history.

In the same match, experienced spinner Deepti Sharma also faced challenges, conceding 90 runs in her 10 overs, making her the second most expensive Indian woman bowler in ODIs.

Previously, the record for the most expensive spell by an Indian woman cricketer in ODIs was held by Priya Mishra, who conceded 88 runs against Australia on December 8, 2024.

The record for the most expensive spell in women’s ODIs belongs to Ireland’s Cara Murray, who gave away 119 runs against New Zealand on June 8, 2018. Pakistan’s Shazia Khan ranks second, having conceded 111 runs against Australia on February 7, 1997.

In the match, Australia, batting first after losing the toss, scored 409 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, thanks to captain Alyssa Healy’s 158 runs off 98 balls and wicketkeeper Beth Mooney’s unbeaten 106 runs off 84 balls. Georgia Wareham contributed with 62 runs off 52 balls, while Nicola Carey added 34 runs off 15 balls.

This match marks Alyssa Healy’s final ODI appearance.
