New Delhi, February 18, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) – India’s explosive opener Abhishek Sharma is going through a difficult phase in the ongoing T20 World Cup, as his poor run with the bat continued against the Netherlands.

The world No. 1 batter in T20 Internationals once again failed to open his account and returned to the pavilion after playing a loose shot. In the current tournament, Abhishek has been dismissed for zero against the United States, Pakistan and now the Netherlands, leaving fans surprised given his top ranking in the format.

Over his last seven T20 International innings, Abhishek has been dismissed for zero five times. In the T20 World Cup, he has now equalled the unwanted Indian record of Ashish Nehra for most ducks by an Indian player in the tournament. Both players have been dismissed without scoring three times.

Apart from Abhishek and Nehra, other Indian players who feature on the list of most ducks in the T20 World Cup include Shivam Dube, Gautam Gambhir, Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli and Axar Patel.

Despite his recent struggles, Abhishek continues to hold the No. 1 position in the ICC Men’s T20 rankings. Over the past 18 months, he has established himself as a dangerous player in this format. However, in the ICC tournament being played on home soil, he has so far been unable to make a significant impact.

In T20 Internationals, Abhishek has also entered the list of openers with the most ducks in a calendar year. In 2026 alone, he has been dismissed for zero five times. If he registers one more duck this year, he will equal the record of Pakistan opener Saim Ayub for most ducks in a calendar year as an opening batter in T20 Internationals.
