UDAIPUR, 28 January (Udaipur Kiran): On the eve of the 77th Republic Day 2026, the nation has announced the conferment of the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) on Colonel Aditya Joshi of the Army Medical Corps, a proud son of Udaipur. The prestigious award, bestowed by the President of India, will be formally presented in June in recognition of his outstanding, dedicated and exemplary medical service to the nation and the Armed Forces.

Colonel Joshi completed his MBBS from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, in 2001, earned his postgraduate degree in Anaesthesia in 2009, and later pursued a post-doctoral fellowship in Critical Care from Medanta in 2019. He is widely respected for his deep expertise in intensive care medicine, calm professional approach, and patient-focused treatment methods.

During the challenging period of the Covid-19 pandemic, Colonel Joshi worked tirelessly, providing round-the-clock care and saving the lives of several critically ill patients. His notable expertise in managing highly complex cases using Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) proved life-saving for many patients. For his exceptional contributions during and after the Covid period, he has earlier been honoured with commendations and medallions by the Army Commander (Eastern Command) and the Chief of Army Staff.

At present, Colonel Aditya Joshi is serving as the Head of the Intensive Care Department at the Armed Forces’ most prestigious medical institution, the Army Hospital (Research and Referral).

Over his distinguished 25-year military career, he has rendered medical services in some of the country’s most sensitive regions, including Siachen, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, West Bengal and Rajasthan, and has also served with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon, reflecting his unwavering commitment to the nation and the Army.

A second-generation military officer, Colonel Joshi is the son of retired Brigadier (Dr.) C. P. Joshi of the Army Medical Corps. His dedication to national service and the Armed Forces is deeply rooted in this legacy.

Colonel Joshi attributes the foremost credit for this honour to his wife, Mrs Amrita Joshi, who steadfastly supported him and managed family responsibilities during his demanding duty hours of 12 to 18 hours a day, standing by him at every step of his professional journey.
