Indian Coast Guard and Navy ships are set to visit international ports in Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand. During these visits, Indian naval personnel will engage in joint maritime exercises with the host countries’ navies. The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS) will be deployed for this long-distance mission in Southeast Asia. The squadron includes INS Tir, INS Shardul, INS Sujata, and the Coast Guard vessel Sarathi.

The deployment is part of the 110th Integrated Officers Training Course, aimed at providing officer trainees with operational proficiency, maritime procedural knowledge, and exposure to a multicultural environment. The squadron will call at ports in Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand during this extensive training assignment.

According to the Indian Navy, this initiative strengthens INDIA’s Act East Policy and its commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific maritime region. The First Training Squadron’s visit will include professional interactions with the navies and maritime agencies of the host countries. Activities such as training sessions, cross-deck visits, expert dialogues, and joint maritime partnership exercises will be conducted to enhance mutual trust, operational understanding, and interoperability among the navies.

Notably, six international officer trainees are also participating in the 110th Integrated Officers Training Course. This international presence highlights the Indian Navy’s ongoing dedication to capacity building and professional training for friendly nations. Additionally, personnel from the Indian Army and Air Force are part of the deployment, fostering stronger jointness and coordination among the three services.

Defence experts observe that this long-distance training deployment underscores the Indian Navy’s excellence in training, maritime diplomacy, goodwill building, and collaborative regional maritime security efforts.

Previously, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Mozambique, the First Training Squadron had visited Maputo, Mozambique’s capital. The Coast Guard ship Sarathi was part of that fleet. Indian naval ships participated in various activities and meetings during the Mozambique visit. Additionally, months ago, the same squadron’s vessels called at La Réunion, France, and Port Louis, Mauritius, as part of their long-distance training deployment in the southwestern Indian Ocean region.

The squadron included INS Tir and INS Shardul, along with the Coast Guard ship ICGS Sarathi. The Indian Navy has highlighted that these maritime vessels have been actively contributing to training deployments and strengthening India’s maritime presence in the region.
