New Delhi, 30 December. The year 2025 has been remarkable for the Indian men’s cricket team. India secured major limited-overs tournament victories, including the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup. Spinner Varun Chakravarthy played a crucial role in these wins. Former Indian great R Ashwin has declared Varun Chakravarthy as the best Indian bowler of the year 2025.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, R Ashwin said, “Varun is one of India’s most important players. He has proven to be the X-factor on numerous occasions. Batsmen always find it difficult to read him. I consider him the team’s best bowler this year. His role will be very important in the T20 World Cup 2026.”
Ashwin added, “Varun’s primary profession was not cricket. He was an architect. At one point, he was almost out of cricket, but his comeback has been outstanding. He made his mark in domestic cricket in Chennai, then in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, and later in the IPL, which earned him a place in the Indian team. Currently, he is the ICC’s number one T20 bowler. This is truly memorable.”
The year 2025 has undoubtedly been the best for Varun Chakravarthy, securing his place in the international team. Whether in One Day Internationals or T20s, he has delivered impressive performances whenever given a chance. Varun has taken 10 wickets in 4 ODIs this year and claimed 36 wickets in 20 T20 matches.
Varun’s T20 performance is very encouraging for India ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament is scheduled to be hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka in March-February. The pitches in both countries are considered spin-friendly. It has been difficult for batsmen worldwide to read Varun Chakravarthy, raising expectations of a magical performance from him in the World Cup. So far, Varun has taken 55 wickets in 33 T20 matches.
