Who is Ricky Bhui? Andhra Pradesh batter smashes hundred against Virat Kohli’s Delhi in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26

Ricky Bhui lifted his team, Andhra Pradesh, with a fighting hundred against Delhi during their ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy clash on Wednesday at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) ground in Bengaluru. In at No 4, Bhui’s 122 runs off 105 balls helped the Nitish Kumar Reddy-led side cross the 250-run mark against a side that has the likes of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in their playing XI.

Coming into bat after the fall of KS Bharat, Bhui, along with Shaik Rasheed, forged a 92-run stand to revive the Andhra Pradesh innings. While Rasheed was dismissed for 31, Bhui continued his array of strokes and stitched together a partnership of 72 runs with captain Nitish Kumar Reddy (23) for the fourth wicket.

Bhui was finally dismissed by Simarjeet Singh in the 42nd over, after playing a little more than 100 deliveries. During his time at the crease, Bhui smashed 11 fours and seven sixes. In the end, Andhra managed to score 298/8 in 50 overs.

What we know about Ricky Bhui?

Born in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in 1996, Bhui started making headlines at the U-19 level for Andhra Pradesh in 2013. It was the same year, he was named in the senior squad for the Ranji Trophy. On his List-A debut, Bhui impressed everyone with a 79-ball 103 not out in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

He followed it up with a fifty on his T20 debut. Followed by his impressive white-ball performances, Bhui was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2014 IPL auction for 10 lakh.

Although he didn’t get many chances in IPL, SRH retained Bhui following his two Ranji Trophy tons ahead of the IPL 2016 auction. He was also named in the Indian squad for the 2016 Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh.

Bhui emerged as the leading run-scorer for Andhra in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season, accumulating 775 runs in eight matches. He had also played for India Blue in the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy. However, Bhui was finally released by SRH ahead of the 2020 IPL auction.

He made his IPL return in the 2024 season when the Delhi Capitals spent 20 lakhs for his services. So far, Bhui has only played four IPL matches, scoring 10 runs.
