Dense Fog and Toxic Air Grip Delhi, Cold Wave Hits North India | Udaipur Kiran

New Delhi, 14 December (Udaipur Kiran) – The National Capital Region (NCR) woke up to dense fog and a thick layer of smog this morning. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, Anand Vihar in Delhi recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 491, placing it in the ‘severe’ category. A similar situation was observed at ITO, where the AQI stood at 484.

The Central Pollution Control Board reported that the air quality in Delhi and neighboring cities including Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram, and Sonipat is in the severe range. In response, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) phase four has been implemented across Delhi-NCR. The Delhi government’s Directorate of Education has instructed schools to conduct classes for grades nine and eleven in a hybrid mode. The government has urged everyone to strictly follow the restrictions imposed under this phase.

As December approaches its halfway mark, the cold wave has intensified across North India and several other parts of the country. In Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh, biting cold winds are making life difficult. Heavy snowfall, cold waves, and dense fog have further deepened the chill in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. For the first time, a cold wave alert has also been issued for regions like Vidarbha, North Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, South Interior Karnataka, and Odisha.
