Sikar, December 11 (Udaipur Kiran): Three people were killed on the spot in a major road accident late Tuesday night near Fatehpur on the Jaipur–Bikaner National Highway, when a sleeper bus collided head-on with a truck. The bus conductor was critically injured and has been referred to Jaipur for advanced treatment. A total of 28 passengers were injured in the accident, out of which six are in serious condition.
According to the police, the bus was travelling from Bikaner to Jaipur, while the truck was moving from Jhunjhunu towards Bikaner. Eyewitnesses said that the speeding truck rammed directly into the bus, causing a loud explosion and severely damaging the front cabin of the bus. Passengers seated in the cabin and the rows behind it suffered the maximum injuries. Several injured passengers had glass shards and metal fragments embedded in their bodies.
Those killed in the accident have been identified as bus passenger Mayank, driver Kamlesh and one unidentified person. The seriously injured conductor, Mitesh, was first taken to the S.K. Hospital in Sikar and later referred to Jaipur. A total of 28 injured passengers were brought to the Fatehpur hospital, out of which seven were referred to Sikar in critical condition. The remaining injured are undergoing treatment at the Fatehpur hospital.
According to Fatehpur Sadar police station in-charge Surendra Degda, around 50 passengers were travelling in the bus. All of them are residents of Valsad district in Gujarat. They were returning after visiting Vaishno Devi and were on their way to Khatu Shyamji. On receiving information about the accident, police immediately reached the spot, shifted the injured to hospitals and restored traffic on the highway. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
