Farrukhabad, December 10 (Udaipur Kiran) – In a late-night police encounter on Tuesday, a member of a transformer theft gang was injured by a gunshot and subsequently arrested. The incident took place in the Mohammadabad police station area, where three other gang members escaped under the cover of darkness.
Mohammadabad Area Officer Ajay Kumar Verma stated that frequent thefts of transformer oil and transformers had been reported in the Mohammadabad and Nawabganj regions. To address this, the SOG team along with Mohammadabad police remained vigilant. On Tuesday night, police received information that the gang was gathered near the village of Nahariya within the police jurisdiction.
When the police and SOG team reached the location, the gang opened fire on the officers. Police returned fire in self-defense, injuring one of the gang members in the leg. The injured individual was taken into custody and identified himself as Shani Singh, son of Sukhnidan, resident of Basmai village under Nawabganj police station.
According to Ajay Kumar Verma, three other suspects managed to flee the scene. The injured Shani Singh was admitted to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment. Police are conducting raids to capture the absconding members of the transformer theft gang.
During the arrest, a .315 bore pistol, cartridges, several liters of transformer oil, and a vehicle were recovered from Shani Singh. He has confessed to involvement in the theft of transformers.
