Markram’s Century Helps South Africa Level ODI Series Against India | Udaipur Kiran


Raipur, December 3 – South Africa registered a 4-wicket victory against India in the second ODI match played on Wednesday. With this win, the visiting team has levelled the three-match ODI series 1-1.

India had won the first ODI match in Ranchi by 17 runs after losing the Test series 0-2 against South Africa. The third and final match of the series will be played on December 6 in Visakhapatnam, followed by a five-match T20 series.

After losing the toss and batting first, the Indian team scored 358 runs for 5 wickets in their allotted overs, thanks to century knocks from Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

India lost both their opening batsmen Rohit Sharma (14) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (22) with the score at 62. From there, Virat Kohli partnered with Ruturaj Gaikwad for a 195-run third-wicket partnership off 156 balls, putting the team in a strong position.

Ruturaj Gaikwad played an innings of 105 runs off 83 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 12 fours, while Virat Kohli scored 102 runs off 93 balls before getting out. His innings included 2 sixes and 7 fours.

The Indian team had lost 5 wickets by the score of 289. From there, captain KL Rahul (66) formed an unbroken 69-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja (24), helping the team reach a massive total.

For South Africa, Marco Jansen took the maximum 2 wickets, while Lungi Ngidi and Nandre Burger picked up 1 wicket each.

In reply, the South African team won the match in 49.2 overs. South Africa suffered an early blow with Quinton de Kock (8) falling at the score of 26. From there, captain Temba Bavuma partnered with Aiden Markram for a 101-run second-wicket partnership, bringing the visiting team back into the match.

Bavuma returned to the pavilion after scoring 46 runs off 48 balls. After that, Markram added 70 runs for the third wicket with Matthew Breetzke, taking the team to 197. Markram scored 110 runs off 98 balls with the help of 4 sixes and 10 fours before getting out.

Breetzke added 92 runs off 63 balls for the fourth wicket with Dewald Brevis, taking the team to 289 runs. Brevis returned to the pavilion after scoring 54 runs off 34 balls with 6 boundaries.

After 45 overs, South Africa needed 27 runs off 30 balls for victory. During this period, Tony de Zorzi (17) retired hurt due to a hamstring injury.

Keshav Maharaj (10) came to bat in his place and took charge with Corbin Bosch (26). Both batsmen formed an unbroken partnership of 27 runs to secure victory for the team. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna took 2 wickets each, while Harshit Rana and Kuldeep Yadav picked up 1 wicket each.
