Four Killed in Massive Fire at Three-Storey Building in Sangam Vihar | Udaipur Kiran

New Delhi, November 29 (Udaipur Kiran): A massive fire broke out on Saturday evening in a three-storey building in the Mangal Bazaar area of Tigri Extension, Sangam Vihar, South Delhi, claiming the lives of four people. One woman is seriously injured. The fire was brought under control with the help of four fire tenders.

According to police officials, the bodies of the deceased have been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem. Two of the victims have been identified as the house owner Satendra Gupta (38) and his sister Anita (38). The other two bodies are yet to be identified as they were found in a severely burnt condition, making it difficult to determine even their gender. These two bodies were recovered from a shoe shop during a search operation after the fire was extinguished. The shoe shop was located on the ground floor of the building where the fire broke out.

It is believed that the fire started in the shop and then spread to the first floor. It is suspected that two people got trapped inside the shop after the fire broke out and did not get any chance to escape. Satendra’s sister-in-law Mamta was seriously injured in the incident. According to sources, Mamta jumped from the second floor to save her life, due to which she sustained serious injuries.

DCP Ankit Chauhan said that around 6.27 pm on Saturday, information was received about a fire in a shoe shop on Mangar Bazaar Road, Tigri Extension, Sangam Vihar. On receiving the information, staff from Tigri police station, fire brigade personnel and CATS ambulances rushed to the spot.

A fire department official said that a rescue operation was carried out with the help of four fire tenders. With the help of CATS ambulances, police shifted three people — house owner Satendra Gupta, his sister-in-law Mamta and tenant Anita — to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared Satendra and Anita dead, while Mamta is undergoing treatment. After the fire was doused, two more severely burnt bodies were recovered from the shop during a search operation, whose identities are yet to be established.

The DCP said that a case has been registered at Tigri police station. Crime and FSL teams have collected evidence from the spot. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and the matter is under investigation.
